How to duplicate an existing Post onto a new Page

I don’t know if I’m the only one who’s had a problem with this, but I want to share what I learned just in case you need it, too.

Basically, the idea is this:

  • Copying and pasting a post’s Visual format does not preserve html codes or links.

  • Copying and pasting a post’s HTML format preserves html codes or links. (HTML is much longer and quite jumbled looking. For a sample, here’s step 1. in HTML:

<li><span style=”text-decoration: underline;”>In one web window</span>, go to your website <strong>Dashboard, </strong>then to <strong>Posts</strong>, and select the Post you want to duplicate, and <strong>Edit</strong>.</li>

 Word Press Simple Instructions:

1. In one web window, go to your website Dashboard, then to Posts, and select the Post you want to duplicate, and Edit.

2. Choose to view your Post in HTML, rather than Visual (this option tab is at the top right of your editing box) .

3. Select entire document by pressing “Ctrl“ + “A” on your keyboard, simultaneously. (The document will be highlighted now.)

4. Next press “Ctrl“ + “C” on your keyboard, simultaneously; this will copy all that has been selected. (The document will still be highlighted.)

5. In another window, go to Dashboard, Pages, Add New.

6. Choose to view your Page in HTML, rather than Visual (this option tab is at the top right of your editing box).

7. Lastly, press “Ctrl” + “V” on your keyboard, simultaneously. This will paste your selected Post to your new Page.

Non-WP Simple Instructions:

  1. In one web window, bring up the desired post and choose an Edit function.
  2. Choose to view your Post in HTML, rather than Visual.
  3. Select entire document by pressing “Ctrl” + “A” on your keyboard, simultaneously. (The document will be highlighted now.)
  4. Next press “Ctrl” + “C” on your keyboard, simultaneously; this will copy all that has been selected. (The document will still be highlighted.)
  5. In another window, create a new Page.
  6. Choose to view your Page in HTML, rather than Visual.
  7. Lastly, press “Ctrl” + “V” on your keyboard, simultaneously. This will paste your selected Post to your new Page.
