Today, six friends and I are writing a series called Put the Phone Down. Our hope and prayer is to draw to your attention the importance of one-on-one relationships with those around you without the distraction of a phone and/or computer. In closing, you will find a list of ladies with their own Put the Phone Down topic.
Do You Connect? Put the Phone Down and Be a Witness
In this technologically modern age we have the privilege of covering the miles with our cell phone plan. Expressing ourselves with swift fingers and mood icons. Building our friend contacts without uttering a word.
Pick your preferences:
- talking
- texting
- emailing
- social networking
- you name it
All from your handy little cellular device. I have one, too.
You can connect with friends around world, many you’ve never met.
But do you connect with the those around you?
You know, that expecting mother you nearly ran over in the WalMart aisle?
You know, that little girl who was smiling at you from the cart in front of you in the check-out line?
You know, that elderly man sitting next to you on the bench while you were waiting?
Did you connect with them?
You can text 125 words per minute.
But do you connect with the those around you?
You know, initiate a conversation with a visitor at church?
You know, talk face to face with someone outside your peer group?
You know, share a personal testimony with someone who is going through a trial?
Did you connect with them?
You can talk on the phone for hours.
But do you connect with the those around you?
You know, look a stranger in the eye and invite them to church?
You know, reach people through a ministry avenue?
You know, share Jesus?
You can interact effortlessly to possibly thousands of people.
But do you connect with the those around you?
Put the phone down for a while, and connect.
Not just with the world.
Connect with those around you.

Oh! So pointed! Julie, you’ve really left me feeling convicted. Thank-you for the timely post.
What a great post, Julie! Thank you for sharing and for joining us.
Definitely need to be reminded that it is more important to connect with those closest to us. Great post, Julie!
Fabulous! Gentle, yet pointed. Yours actually sounded so similar to my own. We both talked about connected with those around us. Loved your post!
Um, ouch. I am so guilty of this. Thank you for this “kick.” I needed it!
